About

Brenda Braitling, MISM

Brenda Braitling MISM is an experienced Information Systems Design Architect, who assists organizational leaders to refine massive data flows into useful streams of business intelligence.

She has broad experience in applied data technologies from paper systems to mainframes to enterprise networks and microservices in the cloud.  However, she focuses her designs and solutions on how to help the humans of the organization as they work with information systems to accomplish their mission.

"Technology is just the tools.  My work is all about how to deliver actionable information to decisionmakers. "                                                                     -- Brenda Braitling MISM

She has a deep interest in using spatial systems and agentic semantic systems to enhance learning and workplace technologies.  These include geospatial mapping, neural networks, real time 3D and extended reality technologies like VR, AR and computer vision tracking systems.  She has worked on various Integrated Learning Technology, Simulations and Workforce Analytics projects since 2016.

Earning her master’s in information systems management from Keller Graduate School, her studies included Enterprise Technologies & Data Systems, Project Management, Program Management and Change Management as well as programming, financial accounting and security.

She earned a BA in Biology from SUNY with graduate work in cytogenetics.  As an undergraduate, she also participated in a published Hudson River dissolved oxygen study and migrating species survey as well as limnology and ecology studies at several sites in Ulster County, NY.  She worked as a Biology Lab Assistant, Science Tutor (Zoology, Botany, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry) and a Teaching Assistant.   She also served as a docent and interim museum manager for the Delaware and Hudson Canal Museum in High Falls, NY.

For nearly two decades, Ms. Braitling served in the United States Army Reserve, earning numerous honors and several medals for achievement and supporting training excellence.  Serving with Strategic Air Command in Georgia as a field exercise controller and working with the moulage team to prepare nearly a thousand casualties for a civilian hospital mass casualty event in the Northeast were particularly memorable missions.  She served for several years as the Assistant Training NCO  for her Hospital Battalion as well as being a Platoon Sergeant and Assistant Ward Master for Surgical Services.

Ms. Braitling has served on various nonprofit boards including sworn service as a Planning and Zoning Commissioner for her city.  In her community, she is assisting in the early stages of a much-needed Infant Daycare expansion project.

She currently volunteers with the IEEE-Standards Association's Learning Technology Standards Committee and several Working Groups, including IEEE Open - xAPI, xAPI Profiles, Total Learning Architecture Study Group, Learning and Employment Records and ARLEM (Augmented Reality).  In 2025 she expanded her efforts to work with sematic systems with the Ontology Standards Working Group.

Her professional work is centered on improving patient-centered healthcare operations using human-centered innovative technology.  With her background in clinical practice, performance-based training and information systems design, she aligns technologies to support humans working on human problems in the healthcare industry.   Operationalizing clinical and healthcare business data through visualization and analysis is a major part of her professional practice as a consultant.

Her current passion project is to assure that healthcare professionals, workers, and ordinary persons can be equipped to explore health and healthcare delivery information. She is applying Learning Engineering principles and semantic systems to Serious Games and Simulations in order to personalize learning in this important space.

In 2025, she has established The PopVirt Studios Project at Pondering Press, Inc to develop a training lab and incubator for useful Web Apps, Models and Job Aids focused on: STEM Literacy, Health Literacy, Applied Machine Learning Literacy, Anatomy and Physiology for Human Health, Molecular Machinery of Life, Organic Chemistry, Environmental Science Literacy,  and Consumer Labelling Literacy.

She enjoys helping whenever she can, continuously learning more about how nature seems to work and always reflecting on how humans could work better together.
